Culture Greenland Culture Greenland is a portal to Greenland's culture on the internet. The aim of Culture Greenland is to maintain a list of as many as possible of the web sites with focus on Greenland's culture. Culture Greenland was established at the end of 2001 by Sisimiut Museum. Until Febrary 14, 2005 Klaus Georg Hansen has been in charge of Culture Greenland. Klaus Georg Hansen was director of Sisimiut Museum until march 2004. From February 14, 2005 the internet portal will be updated by Sisimiut Museum |
Within Culture Greenland resources have especially been used to build up Greenland National Image Database. The database is constructed by Michael Husen, who maintains a number of database sites for Odense Town Museum and serves as a consultant on several archival projects in Denmark. The main goal of Greenland National Image Database has been to create cooperation among institutions within the cultural field, organisations, companies and private persons in Greenland and outside the country by giving access to and possibilities for publishing Greenland photo-history for anyone surfing by the database pages. Beside that a local version of the database has been provided for the Greenlandic local museums. |
By the end of 2004 the image database contains over 20.000 images covering various themes related to Greenland. Since then users are also able to create their personal image selection directly through the Internet, for private use, publishing, educational or research purposes. Since 2001 we have received a number of comments about different images. We hope more people will participate with information to e.g. our wide selection of historical images. Culture Greenland has since 2001 maintained a culture calendar. This has been made possible thanks to a number of contributors, especially from the institutions behind the Culture and Sport Magazine Papiit. Culture Greenland has since its beginning worked on providing access to training in basic computer skills. Museum associates and unemployed citizens have participated in courses at Sisimiut Museum. Read more about our Workshop 2002 or enjoy one of the workshop projects. |
During 2004 resources have been put into publishing an online Greenland National Biography Database. This database is constructed for direct data uploading through an internet browser. The aims of this database have been among other things genealogy and wish to create an alternative to ”Grønlands Grønne Bog.” This project has unfortunately not been published yet but will hopefully continue during 2005. Information about web sites that might be relevant to link to to from Culture Greenland together with any comments and suggestions for improvements of Culture Greenland and Greenland National Database are highly appreciated. Please just send an email to the Sisimiut Museum. |
